Several years ago I found myself in the middle of a St Petersburg winter. Freezing and lost I stepped into the closest museum I could find. It was the Kunstkamera, a museum established by Peter the Great. It was the most bizarre place that I’ve ever been to. A place full of curiosities, all manner of deformities and strange animals. It was built to dispel ideas of magic that filtered through the Russian population. It was strange, and definitely for me, one of the world’s strangest museums. These are the others that definitely need to be added to the itinerary.
